Exciting news! I have returned to school to complete my MSN-FNP program at age 53 😊. However, I am currently facing a challenge finding preceptors for all my clinical rotations. This is a common issue for many NP students who are required to pay thousands of dollars per semester to their preceptors or organizations that link them. Sadly, this prevents some students from completing their degree for years or giving up entirely. Therefore, I am reaching out to anyone who is an MD, DO, FNP, Women's Health, Pediatric, or other NP in Illinois, Wisconsin, or California, and available for preceptorships starting this May. Even if you cannot help me personally but are a potential preceptor located anywhere, please consider putting yourself on the list of potential NP preceptors at your local nursing college. The world needs more nurse practitioners, and it is not fair that nurses have to pay to practice, when MD rotations are a part of the physician program. I am sure that all MSN-NP and DNP students will be highly appreciative of the help from those who have gone before us. Let's help each other achieve our goals and make a difference in healthcare! Have a great weekend! #nursepractitioners #clinicalrotations #healthcare #preceptorships #education #nursingeducation #nursingstudents #chicagonursepractitioners #USnursepractitioners #ChicagopalliativecareNPs

Heidi Warpack and I spent a morning recording Applying Preceptor Role at Stanford Health Care Stanford Nursing last week. We covered multiple topics including the tiered skills acquisition model (TSAM), effective communication, building well-being, addressing implicit bias, and the role of the preceptor in competency-based orientation (CBO, developed by #CEPD team at Stanford Health Care and lead by Andrea Heggem, @Tiffany Low, Pritam Steiner, MSN, RN, CNL). What is TSAM? TSAM is a revolutionary model for preceptorship developed by Mayo Clinic. TSAM isan effective method for structuring the clinical unit orientation. The orientee gradually assumes increased responsibilities based on advancing through tiers of skills from simple to complex. The preceptee assumes the responsibility of the whole patient assignment instead of focusing on one patient at a time. The preceptee concentrates on specific tasks and builds on their skills from simple to complex on all the patients. This gives the preceptee a chance to practice prioritization and delegation skills from day one. TSAM is a married model of preceptorship. The preceptee and preceptor are assumed to be one nurse and perform all the tasks together. This allows the preceptee to observe complex skills and learn the day's work organization from the preceptor early in the orientation. One of the important innovations of TSAM is a dedicated Resource Time. This is a patientcare-free time for a preceptor and preceptee to connect to share feedback for each other, assess the current state of the orientation, and create goals. This allows for the development of the critical thinking through debriefing and processing the information and creates the opportunities for growth. #CEPD #nurse #nursingleadership #stanfordhealthcare #stanfordnursing #TSAM #nursepreceptor #preceptee #growth #growthanddevelopment #nursing #healthcare

Thanks to all our 2020-2022 MSN alumni who responded to the alumni survey a few months ago. Here’s an insight to what we’ve learned from you: While 44 percent of our AEMSN respondents work in hospitals, about half of our non-AEMSN graduates work in community clinics. Eighty-nine percent of our respondents are satisfied with their current practice setting, and 98 percent are satisfied with the preparation for practice they received in the School of Nursing. These graduates most often mentionedthe expertise and support of faculty as program strengths, as well as specific clinical experiences. Suggestions for program improvement commonly centered around a desire for additional clinical experiences and more specialized training. We appreciate your feedback that will help us enhance our programs. Hook ‘em! #TEXASNursing #WhatStartsHere
