How much does Sam's Club save you on gas? ›

If your gas tank holds 15 gallons and you fuel up once a week at one of the above locations with $0.10 to $0.50 in savings per gallon, you will likely save upwards of $100 a year, making this an easy “yes” to signing up for a Sam's Club membership since you'll more than earn back the cost for regular Club membership.

Gas stations are in fact legally allowed to charge a customer extra if they choose to use a credit card to purchase gas. This is because the gas station owners pay an interchange fee to the payment networks. They often pass this fee on to the consumer to recoup that additional cost.

Why are gas prices going up? Gas prices tend to rise during the warmer months of the year because of higher demand and a switch to summer-blend gasoline. The direction of crude oil prices and other factors also can contribute to higher prices at the pump.

Costco fuel stations are well-maintained by our capable attendants so you may be confident that the fuel going into your car is clean. Costco uses fuel filters in the petrol pumps to catch particles or debris larger than 10 microns in diameter. For comparison, the average human hair is seventy microns thick.

Costco has more stores across the globe, is expanding rapidly, and generally offers cheaper prices than Sam's Club does, although the latter charges slightly less for membership, has a bigger presence in the U.S., and stocks more name brands.

So why is it so much cheaper than the competition? The short answer is that unlike pretty much every other retail business that sells gasoline, Costco doesn't care about making money from its gas pumps. In fact, Costco typically sells its gas at a moderate loss.
